Dinh The Nam was born on 30 April 1965 in Hai Phong.
The late 1980s - early 1990s were the golden age of Dinh The Nam. To The Cong football club, many people still refer to the name - Nguyen Hong Son, but insiders know that Dinh The Nam is the creator of the charm, the ingenuity and the soul of the Cong.
In 1990, when Hong Son capped No.10 shirt of Cao Cuong - who won the king of goals and the National championship, Dinh The Nam made the decisive pass to more than half of Son's goals in that season.
Before joining PVF, as a coach, Dinh The Nam had a long relationship with Hai Phong club - his hometown and enriched his profile with achievements such as 2005 Super Cup; his Hai Phong team promoted to V-League 2006-2007. After leaving his hometown - Hai Phong, Dinh The Nam participated Hanoi T & T club (now the Hanoi club) and then Viettel Sports Center. In 2015, he with his U15 youth team won U15 Vietnam national championship in 2015 and U16 Vietnam won a silver medal at U16 South East Asia Championship. In 2016, he led U16 Vietnam national football team making their way to the quarterfinals of U16 Asian Championship.
In whatever position, coach Dinh The Nam always show diligence, humility and do more than speak.
Player career (National team level):
- In 1991, the national football team players participated in Seagame 16 in the Philippines.
- In 1993, the national football team players participated in Seagame 17 in Singapore.
- In 1993, the national football team players participated in the elimination round of 1994 World Cup in Singapore.
Coaching Qualifications: Physical Education and Sports University - C, B, A Certificate conferred by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
The club he participated: Army Air Defense Team, Army Club (The Cong), Hai Phong Police Team when he still worked as a player.
Player accomplishments:
- 1989: the National Championships gold medal.
- 1990: the National Championships gold medal.
- 1995: the National Cup gold medal.
Training experience.
- From 2000 to 2011: Coach at the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Hai Phong.
- In 2005, the Hai Phong Club was named the championship of the National cup under his coaching.
- From 2006 to 2007, Hai Phong team was promoted to take part in V-League.
- In 2009, coach of Hai Phong Cement Club.
- In 2015, the U15 Viettel team won the U15 gold medal, the U16 National team won Silver Medal at the Southeast Asian championship, with he working as a team player.
- In 2016, his team made their way to the quarterfinals of the U16 Asian Championship.
- In 2017, the U15 PVF won the U15 gold medal, with he working as a team leader.
