Trịnh Tấn Thành

Leader of Grassroot Coaching team

Trịnh Tấn Thành was born in 1968 in Cao Lãnh City in Đồng Tháp Province.

He was a player of the Dong Thap Football team and one of the country’s “golden generation” star footballers, together with Lê Hùynh Đức, Nguyễn Hồng Sơn, Võ Hoàng Bửu, Trần Công Minh, Hùynh Quốc Cường among others.

Trịnh Tấn Thành joined the Đồng Tháp youth team, and then was transferred to the main team. As a forward, he paired with Hùynh Quốc Cường to form a much-feared striker duo, contributing to the Đồng Tháp Football Club being named the champion at the Vietnam Vietnamese National Football Champions League in 1989 and 1996.

In 1995, thanks to his outstanding performance, Tấn Thành was called up by Coach Weigang for the Vietnam National team to take part in the 18th SEA Games held in Chiangmai, Thailand. This was also a historic year of the Vietnamese football as the national team was named the runner-up at the SEA Games.

Trịnh Tấn Thành was given several nicknames including the “black vortex,” “black arrow”, and “rubber hero. The nicknames are mostly suggestive of his small build, dark skin, yet briskness, technical proficiency, and eagerness and sensitivity in scoring goals, which are required of an outstanding forward.

Upon his retirement as a footballer, Tấn Thành took up different jobs, but his passion for football kept gushing in his blood. He cherished hopes that he would someday return to a job allowing him to satisfy his fervent passion. Tấn Thành was admitted into the Promotion Fund for Vietnamese Football Talent- PVF in early 2013. He took to his new job as a fish into water. At PVF he has not only cherished his glowing fervor for the ball but also had chances to work alongside former national teammates. He currently works as an assistant coach for the batch of trainees born in 2005 and 2006, and a talent scout at PVF. He has struck everyone as a boisterous, humorous person who gets on well with all of his colleagues and entertains them with refreshing laughter after hours of hard work.
